Indian Cricket & Charity

When one thinks of charity, the first fraternity that comes to your mind are the bollywood stars. It is indeed surprising that although Cricket is attributed to be the richest sport in India, apart from Sachin Tendulkar there are hardly any individual big names in the Indian cricketing fraternity associated with charity. All we have is international cricketer like Steve Waugh who launched his ‘Steve Waugh Global Foundation’ in June 2009 in India. His first initiative ‘Udayan’ home for the rehabilitation for leprosy affected children or those whose parents suffer from leprosy is a commendable initiative. Our very own Sachin has been associated with Apnalaya in Mumbai since the last seven years, and he sponsors 200 kids every year for their schooling and tuition.
Although there have numerous instances where the cricketing fraternity has been playing friendly matches and donate for noble causes, it is definitely a point to ponder upon the involvement of these guys or the governing agencies’ involvement with charitable ventures. A random google search on cricket today results in a larger number of highlights featuring huge sums of money minted by an IPL or the cricketing bodies, cricketers, people associated with the cricketing fraternity. While a specific google searches for this fraternity with retrospect to charity in India only give measly number of results featuring Tendulkar or Steve Waugh. It is indeed a shame that there are ‘no’ Indian cricketers who have their individual charities for noble causes. If there are and people know about some, please do let us know. We must ensure that the good work is known and appreciated.

Colour of Love....

Red, the colour of love, has always been my favourite colour even before I knew what it signified. Somehow, I have often experienced emotional refuge in this colour which also resembles negative aspects like violence, warfare, rage and fire, maybe because this colour also portrays passion. I was amazed to read that in some religions, red denotes purity job and celebration. Being an Arian, traits like love, passion, power are in-built in me no wonder I love the colour so much.
